According to Kantar Worldpanel Comtech research the iPhone 5 has overtaken Android in US smartphone market share. Buoyed by existing iPhone owner upgrades, which account for 62 percent of iPhone 5 sales, as well as some Android switching Kantar says that the iPhone now holds a 48.1 percent to 46.7 percent lead over Android in the US. This is based on “strong uptake of the iPhone 5 over the past 12 weeks.”
Hey Microsoft. That Windows Phone 8 event you have planned for Oct. 29 in San Francisco? Google wants in on that day, having just announced a rival event in New York City, perhaps to announce its next Nexus phone.
Google says Acer is an Open Handset Alliance member, so it can’t work on “non-compatible” versions of Android, like Aliyun. But if Android is open-source, how can Google say that Acer isn’t supporting Android? That where the word “compatible” comes in.

The number of malicious Android apps has quadrupled so far in 2012, according to the antivirus/security company Trend Micro, and some of those apps are making their way into Google’s official app store, Google Play.
